Christianity 101 at St. Anne’s: Practice that brings us closer to God

Christianity as we practice it at St. Anne’s, for those seeking baptism, confirmation or marriage. And all others seeking to understand Christianity as practiced within our diverse community.

Be prepared to consider and explore:
  • Diversity and inclusiveness
  • Justice
  • Comfort to learn and grow in our own way
  • Mystery
  • The roles of music, liturgy, and art
For those seeking sacraments - baptism, confirmation, marriage - there will be personal meetings with the pastor as needed.

Each evening in the 6 session programme includes:
  • Reference to the book, Being Disciples: Essentials of the Christian Life by Rowan Williams.
  • Presentation on a theme as listed below.
  • Group conversation.
  • Soup at 6:30 - we hope this is helpful if you did not get to eat supper. This is not part of the evening program, but all are welcome.
  • Opening prayer at 7 pm, closing prayer at 8:45 p.m.
Session 1: Introduction
Our justice practices lead us into conversations about feminism, racism, care for the earth, economic justice, community service, truth and reconciliation and equal marriage. This session will explore how these practices provide a natural path to loving God and loving each other.
Monday, November 18, 7:00 p.m.

Session 2: Worship
The parts of the church service, where they come from, how they fit together as a liturgy, how they both mirror and shape our views. How we participate in the worship service.
Monday, November 25, 7:00 p.m.

Session 3: Bible
An introduction to the contents, origins, interpretation, and important texts of the Bible. What are the roles of the Bible and sermon in our community?
Monday, January 13, 7:00 p.m.

Session 4: Eucharist
The story, ministry, and last meal of Jesus. How we attend to these at St. Anne’s.
Monday, January 27, 7:00 p.m.

Session 5: Church
The history and meanings of the concept and practice of “church." St. Anne's as an Anglican Church.
Monday, February 10, 7:00 p.m.

Session 6: Community
St. Anne's identifying statement is Bringing the Community together for Good. How do we practice community as a church, within the gathered congregation, our local neighbourhood, the wider community, and the world? How do we understand the place of the environment in this context?
Monday, February 24, 7:00 p.m.

Location:
St. Anne's Ministry Centre
