St. Anne’s Anglican Church is Bringing the Community together for Good. We’re holding our fourth annual Community Christmas concert, and we hope you will join us for a good cause.
St. Anne’s is always looking for ways to support our partner organizations: schools, nursing homes, residents’ associations, community centres, food banks, aboriginal youth initiatives, fire stations, and faith groups – including our local synagogue, mosque and religious orders. We pray for the organizations that serve our community, and we’ve developed wonderful friendships with them. We work together because we all care about the capacity of our local community to be a good place for all.
We are especially excited about our continuing partnership with Toronto Police Division 14. We take our place at the table for the monthly meeting of the Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). Our meeting includes includes residents’ associations, business improvement areas, community service groups, as well as interested local residents. The CPLC has created scholarships for high school students entering university - who distinguish themselves by getting involved in leadership roles in their local community. The Community Safety Scholarship, is open to students who live or study in the boundaries of Division 14. We are passionate about this scholarship because we believe students who get involved in community life will become lifelong volunteers. They will make a great positive difference in our neighbourhoods for years to come.
St. Anne’s presents Community Cantate in support of the scholarship. We are now in our fourth year, and it gets better and better! The church is filled, the music is great, and the proceeds from the concert fund the scholarship.
This year, our concert features the Mississauga Children’s Chorus and a jazz quintet! Under the leadership of St. Anne’s new Director of Music John-Luke Addison, we bring together a mosaic of Christmas music by the St. Anne’s Choir, our ensemble-in-residence The Junction Trio. We make it an interfaith celebration with remarks by our friends, including Sister Agnes of the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus, and Ilyas Ally, executive producer of Let the Quran Speak, representing the Islamic Information & Dawah Centre. And as always, you will get to sing. Cantate is Latin for sing-along, and we will!
Help us make a big difference for our local students. We think a youth scholarship that encourages community involvement and leadership is a big deal. Help us fill St. Anne’s Church with 700 people so we can do it again for our community.
The concert is Sunday, December 11. Close enough to Christmas for carols, and a great occasion to share with friends. Come and add your voice to our sing-along and to support a great cause.
