Refugee Sunday - November 17, 10:30 a.m.

When Bill C-31 came to the attention of our community at our annual meeting in February, we committed to growing in our involvement and understanding.  Refugee Sunday is our opportunity to hear from two guest speakers about the impact of the government's legislation on real lives:
  • Miranda Kamal will bring us the experience of Parkdale Elementary School with Roma refugees.
  • Francisco Rico-Martinez of the FCJ Refugee Centre will share their mandate to help up-rooted people overcome the challenges of rebuilding their lives in Canadian society. With an open door approach, the Centre offers an integrated model of refugee protection, settlement services and education, including shelter for women and their children.
How has new government policy impacted current refugee claimants?

We will hear moving stories and understand them in the context of the scriptures of the day.  There will be an opportunity to talk further to the speakers after the service, and to explore further involvement.
