Sister Agnes Preaches Unity - Sunday, January 19, 10:30 a.m.

Sister Agnes delighted everyone with her joke about the imam, the rabbi, the priest and the nun (in the presence of the imam, the rabbi and the priest). She brings inclusive insight in prayers that can be readily prayed by those of many religions and even those of no religion. A member of the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus for over 50 years, thirty right here in our neighbourhood, Sister Agnes is the "Cookie Nun" at Toronto Police Division 14 (in recognition of her frequent gifts to the officers). She is our special guest for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

The Week was established in the 1800s to encourage separate Christian traditions to re-unite or merge. In some cases, where splits happened because of personality, that might still be the best way. These days, we are more ready to appreciate the gifts and special emphases in each Christian tradition. Unity has come to be more about celebrating what we share and having unity of purpose about it, and knowing each other better so we do not unfairly caricature each other.

We delight in our friendship with Sister Agnes, and we trust that her humour and wisdom will be a delight and inspiration to you.
