What does God have to do with Opera? - "Dialogues of the Carmelites" - April 23, 6:30 p.m.

posted 15 Mar 2013, 14:20 by Gary van der Meer   [ updated 24 Apr 2013, 08:19 ]

On April 23rd at 6:30 PM. St. Anne's Anglican Church is hosting a discussion evening on the Canadian Opera Company's upcoming production of Poulenc's  Dialogues of the Carmelites (May 8 - 25th). Special guest on this evening will be Alexander Neef, General Director of the Canadian Opera Company. Mr. Neef's time is limited so we will be starting promptly at 6:30.

This production of Dialogues of the Carmelites is by Robert Carson, who some of you will recall was responsible for the stunningly stark and critically acclaimed Orfeo and Euridice and Iphigenia in Tauris from this past COC season.

You may be planning to attend this performance, thinking about it, or simply interested in an evening of stimulating discussion about the spiritual aspects of this important opera.  In any case, All are welcome!

[We had a great evening with our guest speakers, Alexander Neef, Sister Agnes Roger from our local Carmelite convent, and Father Jay from Mt. Carmel, the Carmelite retreat centre in Niagara Falls. A lively discussion, with more than 50 people in attendance, ranged in topics from the musical influences for this opera to the nitty gritty matters of daily life in an ancient and enduring monastic order. ]
