Lent Begins!

Two celebrations on Ash Wednesday:

10:30 a.m.

Holy Eucharist with Ashes: A quiet contemplative service in the church - 45 minutes

7:30 p.m.

Holy Eucharist with Ashes: A musical service with the St. Anne's Choir - 60 minutes

All are welcome. You do not have to be a member of this church or any church to receive the ashes or the eucharist.

Something to think about:

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday with the sign of the cross made in your forehead with ashes, accompanied by the following statement:

"Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

This statement is an opportunity to reflect on your life journey, both backward and forward, and to become more grounded in your life in the present - as a gift from God.

Lent is a season of preparation for Easter. Your preparation might involve a discipline such as praying daily, reading from the bible or another spiritual writing, keeping a journal. Some people appreciate the challenge of a discipline of giving up something for the 40 days of Lent. People often mention chocolate, coffee, meat, alcohol. If you've wondered about this, it's a possibility especially if missing something you enjoy becomes a prompt for reflecting and prayer.

Ash Wednesday includes a confession prayer that is said by everyone together during the church service. You may wish to prepare for this by taking time to reflect on your life, including any struggles or regrets. Some find it helpful to fast on Ash Wednesday prior to receiving the ashes and communion. If you would like to meet privately with a pastor to talk about this, you're welcome to make an appointment for a one to one conversation or confession:
